Doda admin reviews Solid Waste Management mechanism

DODA, JULY 12: Implementation of Solid Waste Management (SWM) rules were reviewed today here at a meeting of District Level Task Force (DLTF) chaired by Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Imam Din.

The meeting was attended by CPO Doda Parshotam Kumar, CEO Tariq Hussain, Dy. SP DAR Mansoor Ahmed DPCB officer and EOs of MCs Doda, Bhaderwah and Thathri.

The meeting took stock of available infrastructure and mechanism for solid waste management and stressed on the need for generating public awareness in this regard. The Civic bodies were asked to reach out to the people explaining them about the safe dumping and collection of Solid Waste.

The functionaries of district level Pollution Control Board were asked to monitor the existing dumping sites and conduct the regular market checking to restrict the use of polythene and other hazardous material.

The EO’s were also directed to provide the dustbins in all the left-out households of their areas of jurisdiction for proper collection and disposal of waste at the designated dumping sites and newly identified sites for SWM plants.

The meeting also decided to involve social, religious and political platforms for spreading awareness about the scientific disposal of the waste.  

Similarly, the Chief Education Officer was directed to conduct awareness programmes like debates, painting competitions, seminars to create awareness on the subject among the youth and children.

Meanwhile, quarterly meeting of members of Municipal bodies of the district was also held and it was informed   that SWM treatment plants have been already established in Doda and Bhaderwah and these are properly functioning.                                                                                                                                                                              ddc
