*Rally on Swachhta he Sewa hai organised at Doda* _DC Stresses to make Doda plastic free zone_

To commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, District administration Doda in collaboration with RDD, Education and MC department organized a massive cleanliness-cum-awareness rally on the theme ‘Ban on single use plastic’ here today.
Deputy Commissioner Doda, Dr. Sagar D. Doifode was the chief guest on the occasion. Speaking to the gathering he said that district administration Doda is carrying out the drive with a missionary zeal to make the district neat, clean and polythene free.
DC observed that the most befitting tribute which can be paid to the Father of Nation would be to re-invigorate and strengthen our efforts for ensuring cleanliness of all the surroundings of our town and villages.
He also said that ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ launched by the Prime Minister has played a vital role in bringing about a behavioural change in the people with regard to maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings.
He discussed modalities for implementation of “Swachhta Hi Seva” campaign in the district to mobilize communities to make the district plastic free.
The DC highlighted the aim of campaign and said that it is meant to sensitise public and bring behavioural change in them with regard to the sanitation and cleanliness. He also said that such events will be organized at other places of public importance also.
He also directed the concerned authorities to ensure strict implementation of ban on Single Use Plastic (SUP) and proper disposal of both bio-degradable and non-biodegradable waste in the district.
Moreover in this regard painting and debate competition was also organised in which students of the different schools participated besides a skit program was also performed by the students which was based on ‘Swachta and Ban on Polythene bags theme’.
After debate and painting competition, awareness rally was also jointly flagged off by DC, ADDC and ACD Doda, from sports stadium doda which ended at bus stand. During the rally the students were carrying banners highlighting the ill impact of polythene and plastic to the environment and chanted slogans against the use of single use plastic.
Students also pledged to refrain from usage of plastic and will convince their family and friends for the same to create environmental responsibility. Roads and offices were also cleaned during the drive under Shramdan for collection of plastic waste.
During the program jute bags were distributed among the students free of cost.The distribution was held as move to encourage the use of such bags as an alternative of plastic ones,besides prizes and certificates were also handed over to the students whose painting’s and debate were adjudged best.
Other’s who were present during the program are ADDC Doda Imam Din, SP operations Ravinder Pal Singh, President MC Doda Ved Parkash Gupta, ACD Doda Akhter Qazi, CEO doda, DPO Doda, besides other district, tehsil and block level officers attended the program.
