Leprosy awareness campaign organized in Kansar Bhaderwah

DODA, March 13: On the directions of CMO Doda, a medical Team from District Leprosy Society Doda headed by Dr Aadil Hamid Dar along with paramedical staff from CMO Office Doda on yesterday, visited Village Kansar in Medical Block Bhaderwah for conducting hot spot survey of the village, from where a new case of Leprosy Grade-II was detected in GMC Jammu recently.
After visiting village Kansar, four teams comprising of one male and one female visited all houses of the village and educated people about signs and symptoms of Leprosy disease and examined the suspects and referred to UPS Kansar where they were examined by Dr.Adil Hameed Dar.
During the camp, a total of 46 patients of skin and other diseases were treated and provided medicines free of cost, whereas a single dose of Rab. Rafampcin was given to close contacts of newly detected patients by the health team.
Dr Aadil Hamid Mir and Sh Surinder Singh Bijyal (PMA Supervisor) while speaking on the occasion educated the people that Leprosy disease is totally curable at all stages and is not a communicable disease and signs and symptoms help to detect the Leprosy cases.
They said that the disease is a common infection like other infection and is as curable as others. Refuting the myths and social stigma associated with the disease, they said there is no need to feel panic about the disease.
On this occasion, the staff of Sub Centre Dhareja also extended their support in making the awareness camp successful.
Those who were the part of team included Om Parkash Shan (Sr Health Inspector), Sh Krishan Chand (Sr PMA), Sh Ram Raj (PMA), Sh Sajad Hussain (PMA) besides Sh Sudarshan Singh (BHW), Smt Poonam Devi (FMPHW), Akhtara Begum (FMPHW) and concerned ASHAs of the area.
