4th District Road Safety Committee Meeting Focuses on Traffic Management and Infrastructure in Doda
Doda, September 28: The 4th District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) meeting, chaired by the Deputy Commissioner of Doda on 28th September 2024, concluded with a comprehensive review of road safety measures and strategies aimed at enhancing traffic management across the district. Held at the Meeting Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office complex, the session saw active participation from officials representing departments such as Police, Education, Health, Public Works, and Forest. The committee discussed crucial aspects of road safety and outlined a roadmap for implementing improved measures.
Key issues addressed during the meeting included the installation of essential road safety infrastructure, such as crush barriers on sharp curves, speed breakers in accident-prone areas, and improved road signage. The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of educational campaigns to create road safety awareness among local communities and directed the Executive Officer to remove unnecessary obstacles within the town to reduce traffic congestion. All concerned departments were urged to collaborate closely in maintaining road safety measures, ensuring regular monitoring of speed limits, road maintenance, and prompt repair of damaged infrastructure. The need for better coordination between road safety enforcement agencies was also underscored to ensure a streamlined traffic management system.
The Deputy Commissioner provided specific directions to the officials of NHIDCL, emphasizing the need to cover all sensitive and accident-prone areas with the installation of crush barriers. He further directed them to avoid the dumping of construction materials in these vulnerable areas, as it can pose additional risks to road safety. Additionally, the Deputy Commissioner instructed NHIDCL to maintain the stretch from Batote to Thathri, ensuring it remains free of debris and other obstacles, which often contribute to accidents.
The Superintending Engineer, PWD (R&B) Circle, Doda-Kishtwar, who acted as the Member Secretary of the DRSC, facilitated active discussions among participants, ensuring that valuable insights were shared. Attendees included key officials such as the Additional Deputy Commissioners of Doda, Sudershan Kumar, and Bhaderwah, the Chief Medical Officer, the Chief Education Officer, ARTO Doda Rajesh Gupta, Divisional Forest Officer, the Executive Engineers from various divisions, and representatives from agencies like NHIDCL, PMGSY, and SDRF.
The meeting concluded with a strong commitment from all participants to implement the discussed measures promptly, aiming to make Doda’s roads safer for all commuters. The Deputy Commissioner stressed the urgency of regular follow-up on the action points and directed all departments to work in a coordinated manner to achieve the desired outcomes in road safety and traffic management across the district.
